bp Oman is the operator of block 61 and holds a 40% interest, OQ 30%, PTTEP 20% and Petronas 10%. Block 61 produces 1.5 billion cubic feet of gas that’s around 60,000 barrels of associated condensate per day and has the capacity to deliver approximately a third of Oman’s total gas demand.
In 2019, bp and ENI signed an EPSA agreement with the government to work jointly towards an exploration opportunity in Block 77.
In 2022, bp and the government signed an agreement to support a multi-gigawatt, world-class renewable energy and green hydrogen development by 2030.
In 1 June 2023, we signed a project development agreement for a block in Al Dugm area which has the potential to host 3.5 GW renewables, 1.4 GW electolyzer for 150,000 tonnes of green hydrogen a year.
In November 2023, Oman LNG signed a Sales and Purchase Agreement (SPA) with bp to supply 1 million metric tonnes per annum (MTPA) of LNG to bp starting in 2026.
In July 2024, bp acquired 49% in the Hyport Dugm project to become an equity partner with operational rights. The project aims to generate 1.45 GW of renewable capacity and produce 57,000 ktpa of green hydrogen for domestic use or ammonia production and export. The project is currently in the pre-front-end engineering design phase, with a final investment decision to be made in 2027.
